A scientific claim must face science evidence, criticism, comparison, and possible revision. Philosophers of science have debated falsifiability, paradigm shifts, realism, instrumentalism, underdetermination, theory-ladenness, explanation, causality, probability, and the cosmology limits of observation. Other claims are plausible but incomplete, such as many models of dark matter, early-universe inflation, or detailed theories of consciousness.
